  • The Village of Lakewood, IL is recruiting for two full-time positions within the Public Works Department

    Maintenance I
    This position performs a variety of semi-skilled public works construction and maintenance duties, which may require the operation of maintenance equipment. In addition duties included a variety of semi- skilled work in maintenance, repair and will develop technical and functional skills as related to operation and maintenance of the water and sewer system. This position reports to the Water & Sewer Superintendent and the Public Works Foreman. Starting salary $34,350.00 DOQ.

    Utilities Operator II
    This position performs a variety of skilled work, some technical, in the monitoring, operations and maintenance of the potable water treatment and distribution as well as sanitary sewer treatment and collection systems. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned departmental employees. This position reports to the Water & Sewer Superintendent or designee. Qualified applicants shall have 5 years increasingly responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of Water systems or wastewater, should posses or have the ability to receive certification as a Class C water or Class 3 Wastewater treatment operator within one year of hire. Starting salary $41,414.00 DOQ.

    Qualified applicants will have a High School Diploma or GED and possess and maintain a valid IL CDL, Class B with air brake endorsement, and good driving record.

  • The Village of Round Lake Beach Department of Public Works is accepting applications for Water Operator. This is a union position requiring a minimum of a high school diploma and some post high school course work. Candidates must possess an Illinois Class B CDL or a permit with the ability to obtain a CDL within one month of hire.

    Position Summary

    To insure reliability, this position requires skilled work in the maintenance, inspection, diagnosis and repair of motors, pumps, blowers, piping, feeders, mixers, related water treatment equipment and facilities. Work is performed according to a regular, recurring schedule, with special assignments received from the Maintenance Supervisor. Supervision is exercised over lower-level maintenance employees. Assigned facilities are inspected periodically by superiors to assure adherence to prescribed standards and for proper operational condition. Performance is measured through observation and review of performance metrics.

    Job Specific Duties

    This position will be involved in all facets of water plant maintenance at CLCJAWA under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.

    Conducts regular inspections and preventive maintenance of plant equipment such as piping, valves, pumps, motors, motor starters, electrical power distribution equipment, generators, chemical feed equipment, tanks, mixers, HVAC equipment (boilers, air conditioners, air handlers and dehumidifiers) and building facilities as directed.

    Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical equipment such as compressors, pumps, piping, valves, mixers, chemical feed equipment, tanks, engines, and HVAC equipment (boilers, air conditioners, air handlers and dehumidifiers).

    Troubleshoots and repairs electrical equipment such as motors, motor starters, relays, power panels, motor control centers, switchgear, feeder breakers, transformers, and PLC's.

    Utilizes a computer maintenance management system to maintain maintenance records, order parts and to maintain time cards.

    Job Specific Competency Requirements

    Operation and maintenance knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment utilized in water treatment facilities.

    Strong electrical background, welding and machining experience.

    Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment engineering drawings, schematics, operation / maintenance manuals, sight, sound and prior knowledge or experience.

    Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform relatively heavy manual labor. Includes moderate physical work requiring the ability to lift and carry heavy objects; regular walking, bending, crouching, stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing and standing.

    Ability to work in CLCJAWA’s facilities located throughout Lake County and in confined spaces, excavations and elevated surfaces.

    Ability to pass routine respiratory tests as required for the position and ability to meet requirements under the CLCJAWA Respiratory Protection Program.

    Must possess a valid driver's license at all times and have the ability to obtain a class B CDL license at minimum.

    The ideal candidate will possess a maintenance related degree or certificate. Graduation from high school (or education equivalency certificate) supplemented by at least 3 years of technical training and/or experience a minimum.

    General Requirements

    Knowledge of the occupational hazards and required safety precautions of the work and a willingness to follow those precautions, including familiarity with confined space entry, lockout / tagout, chemical safety, etc.

    Skill and ability to use the tools and equipment required by the work.

    Ability to wear personal protective equipment required for the job.

    Excellent writing and oral communications skills.

    Skill in the use of personal computers including keyboard proficiency, the basic use of spreadsheets and document programs and the ability and desire to continually gain new computer skills and learn new software programs.

    Seeks and participates in ongoing training and continuing education programs.

    Ability to work overtime and be on-call.

    Ability to work efficiently and independently.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others including effective, timely, and respectful communication and interactions with all staff, citizens, vendors, and customers.

    Under the direction of the Water Superintendent or his assigns, perform maintenance and repair functions on all water system production, storage and distribution components with a minimum amount of supervision.   • Qualifications:

    High school diploma or equivalent. Class “B” CDL Driver’s License, Three (3) years’ experience in water works operations. Ability to maintain or obtain an IEPA class “C” Water Operator Certificate. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions relevant to the operation of a public water supply, production and distribution system, maintenance and installation, and the regulations governing a public water supply.   • The Utility Division of the Public Works Department seeks a Utilities Supervisor to plan, direct and supervise the maintenance and operation of the Village-owned facilities for the pumping, treatment and storage of the potable water system, the operation of the waste water collection system and maintenance of the storm water collection system. The work involves the performance of duties of considerable difficulty, and is reviewed for progress and conformance to established standards by the Utility Operations Manager.

  • Other duties include planning, scheduling and distributing work assignments and work orders for customer service requests and water meter installations, repairs and replacements. Maintains compliance schedules for the monitoring of the water system in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency regulations. Individual will also coordinate work with public utilities, building, engineering, meter reading and billing divisions and the fire and police departments as well as inspect and approve the work or contractors and complete other projects as assigned. Communicates Village policies to residents and customers.

  • Responsible for supervising all employees in the Utility Division. Plans, schedules and distributes daily work assignments. Works with other divisions, departments and agencies to provide job related training. Participates in employee hiring, evaluating, disciplining and maintaining confidential information. Is responsible for issuance of equipment and material necessary to perform division work.

  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent along with 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a related Public Works environment. College level course work and/or degree in management, engineering or related field is strongly preferred as well as previous supervisory experience. This position also requires a valid Illinois Environmental Protection Agency water plant operator’s certification, minimum class C. Class “A” IEPA Water Plant Operator’s Certificate preferred. Class “A” CDL Illinois Driver’s license with air brake, trailer, and tanker endorsements is also needed.

  • Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m., must be available for call-outs and duty week coverage.

  • Compensation & Benefits: Starting in the low $70,000 depending on qualifications.   • Qualifications
