  • The Village of Gurnee is seeking candidates to establish an eligibility list for the position of Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department.
  • Employees in this position perform work of a semi-skilled to skilled nature involving a variety of routine tasks in the maintenance, repair, operation and construction of Village streets / sidewalks, buildings, water distribution system, sanitary and storm sewer conveyance systems, parkways and grounds, and other public infrastructure. Specific work assignments are provided on a daily basis and may be rotated.
  • Requires a valid Class B or higher CDL with air brake endorsement at time of application and hire; high school diploma / equivalent; 1 to 3+ years’ experience performing construction, maintenance, landscape restoration, or work of a comparable nature. Previous municipal public works experience preferred; additional specialized or technical training as obtained through an accredited technical college or career training institute desirable. Other combinations of education and experience which could provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job may be considered.
  • Must be able to meet attendance requirements and 24 hour emergency call out requirements including weekends and holidays. Position has a 20 mile living radius; must meet radius requirements within 24 months after hire.
  • Candidates with experience and skills that most closely meet the needs of this position, in the Village of Gurnee’s sole determination, may be invited to participate in the screening process and oral interview. Oral Interview for this position will be held on April 24, 2018. Individual candidate times will be assigned at a later date.

    Maintenance I
    This position performs a variety of semi-skilled public works construction and maintenance duties, which may require the operation of maintenance equipment. In addition duties included a variety of semi- skilled work in maintenance, repair and will develop technical and functional skills as related to operation and maintenance of the water and sewer system. This position reports to the Water & Sewer Superintendent and the Public Works Foreman. Starting salary $34,350.00 DOQ.

    Utilities Operator II
    This position performs a variety of skilled work, some technical, in the monitoring, operations and maintenance of the potable water treatment and distribution as well as sanitary sewer treatment and collection systems. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned departmental employees. This position reports to the Water & Sewer Superintendent or designee. Qualified applicants shall have 5 years increasingly responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of Water systems or wastewater, should posses or have the ability to receive certification as a Class C water or Class 3 Wastewater treatment operator within one year of hire. Starting salary $41,414.00 DOQ.

    HOURS PER WEEK: 40+ hours per week. You will be required to have flexible schedule (including nights and weekends) as you will be participating in a schedule as an on-call employee for the Utilities Division.

    The Village of Algonquin is seeking applicants for the position of Wastewater Operator for the Utilities Division of the Public Works Department. This position works under the immediate supervision of the Chief Wastewater Operator.

    GENERAL DUTIES: In this role you will be performing a variety of unskilled, semi‐skilled, and skilled tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and development of infrastructure and wastewater treatment facilities, including, but not limited to, potable water treatment facilities, water wells, distribution systems, collection systems, sludge disposal systems, and the laboratory. The work also includes operation of motorized / heavy equipment.

    REQUIREMENTS: High School Degree or equivalent or any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work. Illinois Wastewater Class 3, or the ability to obtain the license within 18 months of hire. Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class “B”, with air brake and tanker endorsements, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of the date of hire. Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations twenty‐four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

  • The Village of Round Lake Beach Department of Public Works is accepting applications for Water Operator. This is a union position requiring a minimum of a high school diploma and some post high school course work. Candidates must possess an Illinois Class B CDL or a permit with the ability to obtain a CDL within one month of hire.

    Preference will be given to candidates with experience as a water operator or collection system operator; along with a current IEPA Class C Operators License and preferably a current Class 4 Wastewater Certificate. Candidates not possessing a current IEPA Class C Operators License and/or a current Class 4 Wastewater Certification may be considered so long as they possess experience as a municipal water operator or collection systems operator, have the educational equivalent at the time of hire of a Class C Water Operators License and/or Class 4 Wastewater certification and must be able to obtain their Class C Operators License within six months. Starting rate of pay is 23.33 per hour. Equitable benefit package, full time position with potential for overtime. Must be able to pass a DOT pre-employment, drug and alcohol test. Oral and written exams will be part of the interviewing process.
